Urban Summer or "Circle of Sisters" is inspired by black girl friendships that  reveal themselves in times when black girls feel alone and the most unlovable where black girls themselves develop a much needed love language: "I see you"

and how we view them in urban schools and in our communities

textured and layered with history: fragments of headlines

but it also speaks directly to the now—to the political crossroads

Nightrider (Ms. Kittie's Legacy) (2022) Original Urban Summer or "Circle ofKatherine T. Kittie Knox is the inspiration behind this painting. She bravely confronted race and gender barriers in the late 19th century. She was very involved as a bicyclist and joined the male League of American Wheelmen (LAW) established in Newport, RI. Her efforts thrust the issues of race and gender into the national spotlight (League of American Bicyclists).
